Day by day, all 2 of them
Jungle trek to Ban Doong and into Hang En
Pickup from your Phong Nha hotel between 7:30 and 8:00, briefing and gear fitting at the operator's office, then a steep descent to the Rao Thuong stream. You wade to Ban Doong village for lunch and continue about three hours through jungle and repeated river crossings to Hang En. A rocky climb with helmet and headlamp leads to the sandy campsite, with time to swim before dinner is cooked in the cave.
Explore the chambers, trek back out
After breakfast you scramble up behind the tents to the deeper chambers and their stalactites, then wade underground streams to the cave's enormous back entrance where the sand meets the jungle. After lunch at camp, the group retraces the river route and finishes with the steep 450 m climb out of the valley. Cold drinks at the top, back in Phong Nha around 18:00.

Runs December to mid-September, closed for the autumn flood season. January to March can be cold; summer is hot with warm river water for swimming.
Questions worth asking first
Do you need caving experience for Hang En?
No caving experience, but real trekking form. It is level 3 of 6 on the operator's scale: the way in is a jungle trek with many river crossings, and the way out ends with a steep 450 m climb. Their stated bar is prior 8 km trekking days with about 300 m of climbing.
Can children join the Hang En tour?
No. The operator sets the age range at 16 to 70, so this is not a family trip. For children, the ticketed caves like Paradise Cave and Phong Nha Cave are the family route into the park, and Jungle Boss runs guided caves from age 7.
How big is Hang En really?
The camping chamber's ceiling reaches about 140 m with a floor around 200 m across, which is stadium scale: the BBC filmed Planet Earth III scenes here. It is routinely listed among the largest cave passages on earth.
When does the tour run?
December to mid-September, with the cave closed for the rest of the year because of flood risk. Summer is hot but the river is warm for swimming; January to March can be genuinely cold at night, and the operator provides sleeping bags.
What does the price cover?
The 8,800,000 VND per person covers guides and safety crew, all meals, camping and safety gear, park fees, Phong Nha transfers and basic insurance. You mainly bring trekking clothes, shoes and personal items.
Is this the same campsite the Son Doong expedition uses?
Yes. Hang En is night one of the Son Doong expedition, so this trip sleeps at exactly that campsite. It is the closest thing to the flagship experience that can usually be booked within the season rather than years ahead.
