  1. Five Lakes: training and camp

    A guide collects you from your accommodation in Hue and drives to the base near Bach Ma for the briefing and kit. From the Hoang Yen stream you walk in to the Ngu Ho system, where lunch is cooked on site. The afternoon is training: at a 7 metre waterfall inside the Five Lakes chain, the safety team fits you for canyoning and via ferrata and teaches the technique on gentle ground with plenty of holds, which is a far better place to learn than the top of a 200 metre drop. The rest of the day is free to swim, and you camp at Ngu Ho.

  2. The 200 metre descent, the bridge and the zipline

    After breakfast you transfer to the top of Do Quyen Waterfall and begin the descent: 200 metres on a rope system, with a second safety line controlled by the team throughout. At the start of the suspension bridge you are re-rigged and eat a packed lunch with the whole Bach Ma range in view. The bridge itself runs 130 metres at about a 35 degree incline, some 200 metres above the ground, and the via ferrata's 301 rungs climb from there towards the top of the falls. Finally, from a point at 350 metres, the 85 metre zipline crosses the waterfall, and the group treks out to the road.

Questions worth asking first

How tall is Do Quyen Waterfall?

The operator describes it as the highest waterfall in Southeast Asia and does not publish a figure; other sources commonly put it around 300 metres. The number that matters for the tour is the descent itself, which is 200 metres on rope.

Do I need canyoning experience?

No, and the structure of the tour is the reason. Day one trains you on a 7 metre waterfall in the Five Lakes with easy terrain and lots of holds, so you learn the equipment somewhere forgiving. Day two is the real descent with a safety line controlled by staff the whole way.

Is it worth double the price of the Bach Ma day trip?

It depends on whether you want the descent. Both tours include the suspension bridge, the via ferrata and the zipline. The extra 6,750,000 VND buys the 200 metre canyoning descent of the waterfall, the training session, and a night camped at the Five Lakes. If abseiling a waterfall is not the appeal, the day trip covers the same headline features.

What is the minimum age and why is it 12?

Twelve, three years above the Bach Ma day trip. The difference is the sustained rope work: a 200 metre descent demands concentration over a long period, which is a different ask from crossing a bridge and riding a zipline.
