Tour operator, Phong Nha, Quang Binh, now part of Quang Tri province

Jungle Boss

Jungle Boss is a Phong Nha adventure operator founded in 2015 by Le Luu Dung, who arrived in the region in 2008 to work on a German-funded forest conservation project. That origin matters more than it sounds: caving tourism in Phong Nha-Ke Bang is licensed cave by cave, and the companies that hold those licences are the ones that did the survey work with the national park to open the route in the first place. Jungle Boss surveyed the Kong Collapse sinkhole with American caving specialists over more than two years before running a single paying trip there.

What is actually on the record

Every item here is checkable. We have left out the things that are not.

Cave survey work with recognised bodies

Kong Collapse was found by drone in 2019 and took over two years of survey work with American caving specialists before the operating licence was granted and tours began in 2021. The Hung Thoong system opened in early 2023 by the same route, and Hang Thang, marketed as Victory Cave, was surveyed with the national park board in June 2026.

Equipment and safety training

Tours run on Petzl rope equipment, with additional gear from CMI, Black Diamond, Simond and Climbing Technology. The company says its kit is selected, inspected and maintained under guidance from National Speleological Society cave experts. Every departure includes PVI travel insurance, and staff carry safety and rescue training.

Local hiring

Guides, safety assistants, porters and cooks are recruited locally, which the company connects directly to its founder's conservation background: work in tourism replaces income that previously came out of the forest.

Outside investment

In 2022 the company became the first to close a deal on Shark Tank Vietnam's fifth season, raising 12 billion VND for a 25 percent stake.

Review record

Their site displays 4.9 out of 5 across 1,149 reviews, and they list TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence for 2017 through 2020 and again for 2024 and 2025.

Which caves they can take you into

Phong Nha works differently from most places. Routes are licensed cave by cave, usually to the company that did the survey work to open them, so you are rarely choosing between operators for the same trip. You are choosing a cave, and the cave decides the company.

Jungle Boss, questions worth asking

Is Jungle Boss a legitimate, licensed operator?

Yes. Jungle Boss Company Limited holds Vietnamese international travel licence 44-011/2016/TCDL-GPLHQT, issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in January 2016, and tax registration from November 2015. Beyond the paperwork, the caves it runs are permit-controlled by the national park, and a permit is not something an unlicensed company can hold.

Jungle Boss or Oxalis?

For most caves this is not a choice you get to make. Phong Nha routes are licensed one operator per cave, so the question is really which cave you want. Oxalis holds Son Doong, Hang En and the whole Tu Lan system including Hang Tien. Jungle Boss holds Kong Collapse, Hung Thoong, the Tiger Cave series, Hang Pygmy and Victory Cave. Both are established, well-equipped companies with long safety records; where they genuinely differ is price and availability, since the Oxalis flagship trips book out years ahead while most Jungle Boss departures can be had this season.

How safe is caving in Phong Nha?

The serious operators here run it as an expedition rather than an activity: rope work is rigged and controlled by trained safety staff, groups are small, insurance is included, and the hardest trip in the catalogue requires a medical check before your booking is confirmed. The genuine risks are weather and water rather than the rope: the park floods between September and November, and tours are suspended when it does. Treat a cancellation in that window as the system working.

What does a Jungle Boss tour cost?

From 800,000 VND for the Tra Ang day excursion to 35,000,000 VND for the five day Kong Collapse expedition. Prices include guides, safety staff, porters, all meals, gear hire and insurance, which is worth remembering when comparing against tours that quote a lower headline and charge for equipment separately. The public code JBR5 takes 5 percent off at checkout.

Do I need experience to book with them?

Not for most of the catalogue. Several trips take children from age 7 or 9 and involve no rope work at all. The technical tours are the exception: Hang Pygmy and the Tiger Cave series start at 15, Hung Thoong and Kong Collapse at 16, and Kong Collapse additionally requires a health statement and a medical assessment.
