Teatro Castro Alves (TCA) is Salvador's premier cultural venue, located in the Campo Grande neighborhood. Named after the famous Brazilian poet, the theater features a large main hall (Sala Principal) with excellent acoustics, a smaller experimental space (Sala do Coro), and an outdoor amphitheater. The building's modernist architecture, with its distinctive curved facade and large murals, is a landmark in itself. TCA hosts a diverse program including symphony concerts, ballet, opera, popular music shows, and theater performances. It is home to the Bahia Symphony Orchestra and regularly features renowned Brazilian and international artists. 历史背景
Inaugurated in 1958, the theater was designed by architects José de Souza Reis and Oscar Niemeyer's team. It replaced an earlier theater destroyed by fire. The name honors Antônio de Castro Alves, a 19th-century abolitionist poet from Bahia.
