Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge
A hill station the French built in the 1920s to escape the coastal heat, rebuilt as a resort complex at 1,487 metres and reached by one of the longest non-stop cable cars in the world. The Golden Bridge is the reason most people come: a 150-metre walkway apparently held up by two vast stone hands, opened in 2018. Beyond it there is a French village replica, gardens, and an indoor amusement area that is genuinely useful when the summit weather turns.
Worth knowing: The summit sits above the cloud base for much of September to December, and the cable car runs whether or not there is a view. Check the forecast the evening before rather than the morning of.
Da Nang after dark and the Han River
Da Nang's riverfront is its evening. The Dragon Bridge runs the length of the river with a dragon's head at one end, and on weekend nights it breathes fire and then sprays water. River cruises run from the quay below and take in the lit bridges, which is a short, easy way to end a long day.
Worth knowing: The fire-and-water show is Saturday and Sunday evenings only, around nine. On a weekday the bridge is just lit.
