Sharjah Fort - Al Hisn

Sharjah Fort, also known as Al Hisn, is a beautifully restored 19th-century fortification in the heart of Sharjah. Originally built in 1823, it served as the residence of the ruling Al Qasimi family and a defensive stronghold. Today, it operates as a museum offering a glimpse into the emirate's history and culture. Visitors can explore its coral-stone walls, watchtowers, and traditional wind towers. Inside, exhibits include historical photographs, weapons, pottery, and household items that illustrate daily life in old Sharjah. The fort also hosts temporary art and cultural exhibitions. The surrounding Al Shuwaihean area is a quiet, traditional neighborhood, making the fort a peaceful retreat from the bustling city.

Un peu d'histoire

Sharjah Fort was built in 1823 by Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi. It served as the seat of government and royal residence until the 1970s. After decades of neglect, it was meticulously restored and reopened as a museum in 2015, preserving its original architectural features.
