Sabarmati Riverfront

The Sabarmati Riverfront is Ahmedabad's modern, landscaped promenade along both banks of the Sabarmati River, an ambitious urban-renewal project that transformed the river's edge into a wide, walkable public space with gardens, promenades, event grounds, and viewpoints. It's where the city comes to walk, jog, cycle, and relax, especially in the cooler evening hours, with the river, bridges, and city skyline as a backdrop. There's a popular weekend Sunday market, boat rides, and an Atal pedestrian bridge with night lighting.

It's a relaxed, free counterpoint to Ahmedabad's intense old city, and a good place to unwind at sunset. Combine it with the nearby Gandhi Ashram (also on the river) for a full riverside day, and time an evening visit for the lit bridges and cooler air.

The Sabarmati Riverfront was developed in the 2010s as a major urban-redevelopment project to reclaim and beautify the riverbanks, providing public promenades, gardens, and infrastructure where there had been informal settlements and an underused floodplain.
