Shanghai Zhongshan Park

Shanghai Zhongshan Park is a sprawling urban green space in the Changning district, named after Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan). Covering over 20 hectares, it's one of Shanghai's oldest and most beloved parks. The park blends natural beauty with recreational facilities: a large central lake where you can row boats, winding paths shaded by ancient plane trees, and formal gardens with seasonal flowers. There's also a small amusement area with a ferris wheel and bumper cars, making it popular with families. On any given day, you'll see locals practicing tai chi, couples strolling hand-in-hand, and children feeding the ducks. The park has a relaxed, community feel, less touristy than the Bund or Yu Garden. A notable feature is the Shanghai Zoo's former site within the park, which still has a small animal area. The park also houses the 'Zhongshan Park' metro station, making it a convenient stop for a peaceful break from the city's hustle.

Un peu d'histoire

Originally built in 1914 as the Jessfield Park (a private garden), it was renamed Zhongshan Park in 1945 after Sun Yat-sen. It was once home to the Shanghai Zoo until the zoo moved to a larger site in the 1950s.
