The Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct, also known as the Old Dutch Hospital, is a historic building in Colombo's Fort area that has been transformed into a vibrant hub of boutiques, restaurants, and cafés. Built in the 17th century by the Dutch, the structure is one of the oldest buildings in Colombo and features classic Dutch colonial architecture with thick walls, high ceilings, and a central courtyard. Today, the precinct offers a curated mix of high-end fashion stores, souvenir shops, and eateries serving local and international cuisine. Visitors can stroll through the open-air courtyard, enjoy a meal at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the city, or shop for Sri Lankan handicrafts and jewelry. The atmosphere is relaxed and upscale, making it a popular spot for both tourists and locals. The precinct is especially charming in the evening when the courtyard is lit up and live music often plays. It's a perfect place to take a break from sightseeing and soak in Colombo's colonial heritage.

Un poco de historia

Built between 1656 and 1670 by the Dutch East India Company, the building originally served as a hospital for Dutch soldiers and sailors. After the British took over in 1796, it continued as a hospital until the early 20th century. It was later used as a police station and other government offices before being restored and reopened as a shopping precinct in 2011.
