Lisbon rewards going uphill and turning left. This skips the two or three things everyone queues for and keeps the ones that are actually better, which mostly means viewpoints, tiles and one castle.
The highest viewpoint in the city and the least crowded of the big ones. Best in the last hour of light.
The oldest quarter, and the one the 1755 earthquake mostly spared. Go without a route.
Worth it for the walls and the view rather than the interior. Early or late, never midday.
Tiled terrace looking over Alfama to the river. Small, and busy for good reason.
The one thing here genuinely worth queueing for. Cloisters, not the church, are the reason.
A roofless gothic church left as the earthquake made it. The most affecting ruin in the city.
