Built around staying out of the sun between eleven and four. Temples early, air conditioning or a boat in the middle of the day, markets and river views once it cools down.

Map loads as you reach it
6 of the places below are pinned. Tap a number to see which.
  1. The reclining Buddha, and quieter than the Grand Palace next door. Go at opening.

  2. Unmissable and unbearable at midday. First hour only, and cover your knees and shoulders.

  3. Inside the palace complex, so see it in the same early visit rather than making a second trip.

  4. Five and a half tonnes of solid gold Buddha, hidden under plaster for two centuries. Small, cool, quick.

  5. Cross by ferry and climb it as the light goes. The walk back along the river is the point.

  6. Not for everyone, and better after dark. Fifteen minutes tells you whether you want the other two hours.
