Qasr al-Bint, meaning 'Castle of the Pharaoh's Daughter,' is the principal temple in Petra, dedicated to the supreme Nabataean god Dushara. Unlike many rock-cut monuments, this structure is built from stone blocks and stands as one of the few freestanding buildings in the ancient city. Visitors can explore its massive walls, which once rose over 20 meters, and see remnants of altars and niches. The temple's location at the end of the Colonnaded Street makes it a focal point of Petra's sacred landscape, offering insight into Nabataean religious practices.
Don't miss
- Examine the well-preserved stone masonry and monumental entrance.
- See the inner sanctuary where statues of Dushara once stood.
- Walk the surrounding temenos (sacred enclosure) with its column bases.
