Torre Bissara is the iconic clock tower that rises above Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza. Standing at 82 meters tall, it is one of the tallest structures in the city. Built in the 12th century as a defensive tower, it was later raised and adorned with a clock mechanism and a large astronomical clock face. The tower is part of the Basilica Palladiana complex, though it predates Palladio's work. Visitors can climb the narrow staircase to the top for breathtaking 360-degree views of Vicenza's red-tiled roofs, the Basilica Palladiana, and the distant Berici Hills. The clock's bells still mark the hours, and the tower is especially photogenic at sunset when the stone glows golden.
Don't miss
- Climb to the top for panoramic views of Vicenza
