Römerberg is the heart of Frankfurt's Altstadt (Old Town), a cobblestone square that transports visitors back in time. Flanked by meticulously reconstructed half-timbered buildings, the square is dominated by the Römer, a medieval complex that has served as Frankfurt's city hall for over 600 years. The square is a lively hub, hosting the annual Christmas market, outdoor events, and cafes where you can soak in the atmosphere. At its center stands the Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen (Fountain of Justice), a 16th-century statue of Justitia. The surrounding buildings include the Historisches Museum and the Alte Nikolaikirche, a 12th-century church. Despite heavy WWII damage, the square was faithfully rebuilt, making it a must-see for its blend of history, architecture, and vibrant urban life.
