Frankfurt Cathedral, officially the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, is a striking Gothic church in the heart of the Old Town. Built between the 14th and 15th centuries, it served as the election and coronation church for Holy Roman Emperors from 1562 to 1792. The cathedral's 95-meter tower offers panoramic views of Frankfurt, accessible via 328 steps. Inside, you'll find a high altar, intricate stained glass, and the Wahlkapelle (Election Chapel) where imperial elections were held. Despite severe damage in WWII, the cathedral was rebuilt and remains a symbol of Frankfurt's resilience. It's a working church, so visitors should be respectful during services. The cathedral is free to enter, with a small fee for the tower climb.
