The New Old Town (Neue Altstadt) is a remarkable reconstruction of Frankfurt's historic city center, which was destroyed in World War II. Opened in 2018, this quarter faithfully recreates the medieval layout and architectural style, featuring picturesque half-timbered houses, narrow cobblestone lanes, and charming squares like Hühnermarkt and Goldene Waage. The experience of visiting is like stepping back in time: you can wander through alleys lined with artisan shops, cafés, and museums, all set in buildings that look centuries old but are built with modern amenities. What makes the New Old Town distinctive is its commitment to historical accuracy, many houses were rebuilt using original plans and materials, and some incorporate surviving fragments. You'll see the iconic 'Römer' complex, the Justice Fountain, and the vibrant atmosphere of locals and tourists mingling in the open-air spaces.
