Tumulus Saint-Michel is a massive artificial mound rising 12 meters high and stretching 125 meters in length, making it one of the largest tumuli in Europe. Dating back to the 5th century BC, this prehistoric burial site dominates the landscape of Carnac. Visitors can climb to the summit, where a small chapel dedicated to Saint Michael was built in the 17th century. From the top, you'll enjoy sweeping views over the town, the bay of Quiberon, and the famous alignments of Carnac. The site offers a unique blend of prehistoric engineering and later Christian adaptation, with the chapel serving as a striking contrast to the ancient earthwork. Excavations have revealed burial chambers and artifacts, though the interior is not open to the public. The mound is surrounded by a peaceful park, making it a pleasant spot for a stroll.
