The Alignments of Kermario are the most famous and visited of Carnac's megalithic sites, featuring 1,029 menhirs arranged in 10 roughly parallel rows. These standing stones, some reaching up to 6 meters in height, stretch for over a kilometer across the heathland. The alignment is part of a larger complex that includes the nearby Ménec and Kerlescan alignments. Visitors can walk along designated paths that wind between the rows, marveling at the precision and scale of this Neolithic construction. The site is particularly impressive at sunrise or sunset when the stones cast long shadows. An on-site visitor center provides context through exhibits and a short film. The sheer number of stones and their mysterious purpose, whether astronomical, religious, or territorial, continues to captivate archaeologists and tourists alike.
