Merchandise Mart

The Merchandise Mart is a colossal commercial building occupying an entire city block along the Chicago River. Originally opened in 1930 as a wholesale merchandise center, it was the largest building in the world by floor area at the time. 历史背景

Designed by architects Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, the Merchandise Mart opened in 1930 as a wholesale center for Marshall Field & Company. It held the title of world's largest building until 1943 and was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1977.
