The Merchandise Mart is a colossal commercial building occupying an entire city block along the Chicago River. Originally opened in 1930 as a wholesale merchandise center, it was the largest building in the world by floor area at the time. Today, it serves as a hub for the design and furnishings industry, with hundreds of showrooms featuring furniture, textiles, and home decor. The Mart also houses offices, event spaces, and the popular Shops at the Mart, which offer retail and dining.
