Carbide and Carbon Building

The Carbide and Carbon Building is a historic Art Deco skyscraper located at 230 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago's Loop. Completed in 1929, its distinctive dark green and gold terracotta cladding is said to resemble a champagne bottle, with the green representing the bottle and the gold the foil. The building was originally the headquarters for the Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation. Today, it houses the Pendry Chicago hotel, which preserves many original Art Deco details while offering modern luxury accommodations. 历史背景

Designed by the architectural firm Burnham Brothers, the Carbide and Carbon Building was completed in 1929 as the headquarters for Union Carbide. It was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1996 and underwent a restoration in 2018 to become the Pendry Chicago hotel.
