The Oriental Pearl Tower is a futurist TV tower in Lujiazui, Shanghai, on the banks of the Huangpu River directly opposite the Bund. It has three large spherical platforms connected by three pillars and an elevator, with fifteen observation levels. The tower stands 468 metres tall, including its antenna, and is a cultural icon of the city.

历史背景
The idea for a new TV tower in downtown Shanghai was first introduced in a broadcast on August 25, 1983. Construction began on July 30, 1991, and the tower opened to the public a year after completion in 1995. It was the tallest structure in China until 2007.
