Ankara Castle (Ankara Kalesi) is a fortified complex perched on a hill in the old Ulus district, with origins dating back to the Galatians and later expanded by Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans. The castle consists of an inner and outer section, with walls built from volcanic stone and ancient ruins. Today, the area is a lively neighborhood of narrow cobblestone streets, traditional wooden houses, artisan shops, and cafes. Visitors can explore the citadel's towers, walk along the ramparts, and enjoy sweeping views of Ankara's modern skyline. Inside the castle grounds are the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations (one of Turkey's finest), the Alâeddin Mosque, and several restored Ottoman-era houses. The atmosphere is a blend of history and local life, with children playing, cats lounging, and the smell of Turkish coffee drifting from nearby cafes. It's a must-visit for history buffs and photographers.
