The Garden Bridge, also known as Waibaidu Bridge, is a iconic landmark in Shanghai that spans the Suzhou Creek near its confluence with the Huangpu River. Built in 1907, this steel truss bridge is one of the oldest surviving bridges in Shanghai and a fine example of early 20th-century engineering. The bridge's name comes from its proximity to the former Shanghai Public Garden (now Huangpu Park). Its graceful curve and intricate ironwork make it a popular spot for photography, especially at sunset when the structure is illuminated. Walking across the bridge offers views of the historic Bund on one side and the modern Pudong skyline on the other. The bridge is also a favorite location for couples, who often attach love locks to the railings. Despite being over a century old, the bridge remains open to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, serving as a vital link between the Hongkou and Huangpu districts.
