The Jade Buddha Temple is a Buddhist temple in Shanghai, founded in 1882. It is known for two jade Buddha statues imported from Myanmar: a 1.95-meter, 3-ton sitting Buddha and a smaller reclining Buddha. The temple also contains a larger marble reclining Buddha donated from Singapore.

Немного истории

The temple was founded by monk Huigen, who brought two jade Buddha statues from Burma to Shanghai. A new temple was built on land donated by Sheng Xuanhuai, a senior Qing official, and construction lasted from 1918 to 1928. During the Cultural Revolution in 1966, monks affixed posters of Mao Zedong on the exterior to prevent destruction.
