King Salman Park

King Salman Park is a large urban park being developed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the site of the former Riyadh Air Base. It is part of the Green Riyadh initiative and is expected to be one of the largest urban parks in the world, with a planned area four times that of New York's Central Park. The park will include green spaces, cultural venues, sports facilities, and a traffic-free path for walking and cycling.

• The Royal Arts Complex, designed by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, includes the Museum of World Cultures, a 2,300-seat National Theater, and a sculpture hall.
• The Visitor Pavilion, designed by David Adjaye, features a 360-degree terrace, a plant nursery, and exhibition halls.
• A 7.2-km traffic-free 'urban loop' for walking, cycling, and autonomous public transport.
• Over 11 sq. km of green space with around 1 million trees, gardens, forests, and water features.
• Valley pathways up to 30 meters deep that create shaded areas.

• The park is being built on the site of the former Riyadh Air Base and is part of the Green Riyadh initiative.
• It will be served by five stations on the Green Line of the Riyadh Metro and ten bus stations.
• A traffic-free path forms a 7.2-km loop for walking, cycling, and autonomous transport.

Um pouco de história

The project was announced in March 2019 by King Salman and is part of Saudi Vision 2030. Construction began in late 2021 after contracts were awarded. The first completed component, the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Tunnel, opened in February 2024.
