Rani Sipri's Mosque

Rani Sipri's Mosque, also known as Masjid-e-Nagina, is a gem of Indo-Islamic architecture located near Astodia Gate in Ahmedabad. Built in 1505 by Rani Sipri, the wife of Sultan Mahmud Begada, the mosque is renowned for its delicate stone lattice work and intricate carvings. The structure is relatively small but exquisitely proportioned, with two minarets and a prayer hall adorned with elegant jali (perforated stone screens) and floral motifs. The mosque's serene courtyard and the adjoining tomb of Rani Sipri add to its historical charm. Despite being surrounded by the bustling city, the mosque offers a peaceful retreat. It is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India and remains an active place of worship.

Rani Sipri's Mosque was commissioned in 1505 by Rani Sipri, the wife of Sultan Mahmud Begada of Gujarat. According to legend, the queen built the mosque after her son's death, and she was later buried here. The mosque is a fine example of the fusion of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles prevalent in Gujarat.
