Cerro del Obispado

Cerro del Obispado, also known as Bishop's Hill, is a prominent hill in central Monterrey that rises above the city. At its summit stands the Museo del Obispado, a former bishop's palace built in the late 18th century. The site provides sweeping vistas of the Monterrey skyline and the surrounding Sierra Madre Oriental mountains, making it a favorite spot for photography and sunset viewing. Visitors can explore the museum's exhibits on regional history, including artifacts from the Mexican Revolution. The hill is also home to a large flagpole flying the Mexican flag, a symbol of the city. The climb up the hill is steep but rewarding, with benches and lookout points along the way.

Een stukje geschiedenis

The hill takes its name from the Bishop's Palace (Palacio del Obispado), constructed between 1787 and 1788 as a residence for the bishop of Linares. It later served as a military fort during the Mexican-American War and the French intervention. Today, the palace houses the Museo de Historia Regional.
