Crawford Market, officially known as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, is a bustling covered market located in the heart of South Mumbai, near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Housed in a striking Victorian Gothic building completed in 1869, the market is named after Arthur Crawford, Mumbai's first municipal commissioner. The structure features a large fountain designed by Lockwood Kipling, father of Rudyard Kipling, and a clock tower. Inside, the market is divided into sections: fruits and vegetables, spices, dry goods, and a pet section (now regulated). The atmosphere is vibrant and chaotic, with vendors calling out prices and shoppers bargaining.
