Casa do Rio Vermelho

Casa do Rio Vermelho is a museum dedicated to the lives and works of Jorge Amado, one of Brazil's most beloved authors, and his wife Zélia Gattai. Housed in their former residence in the Rio Vermelho neighborhood of Salvador, the museum offers an intimate glimpse into their personal and creative worlds. The house retains much of its original charm, with rooms furnished as they were when the couple lived there, filled with personal belongings, photographs, and a vast library. Visitors can explore the lush garden, where Amado often entertained friends and wrote, and see the famous 'tree of writers' where he would hang his hammock. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events, making it a vibrant hub for literature and Bahian culture. Een stukje geschiedenis

Jorge Amado and Zélia Gattai moved into this house in 1963 and lived there until their deaths. After Zélia passed away in 2008, the house was transformed into a museum, opening to the public in 2014. It is managed by the Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado.
