Yonge-Dundas Square is the buzzing, neon-lit heart of downtown Toronto, the city's answer to New York's Times Square. At the busy intersection of Yonge and Dundas streets, this open public square is wrapped in giant illuminated billboards and video screens, and serves as a major hub for events, concerts, festivals, public gatherings, and street performances throughout the year. Right beside the CF Toronto Eaton Centre (one of the city's biggest shopping malls) and surrounded by theatres, shops, and restaurants, it's a constant swirl of energy and people.

It's less a sightseeing 'attraction' than a place to feel the pulse of the city, pause to take in the lights, catch a free event or performance, and use it as a launchpad for downtown shopping and entertainment. (The square has recently been renamed Sankofa Square.) Free and always open, it's liveliest in the evenings and during its many festivals.
