The CN Tower defined Toronto's skyline for decades and was the world's tallest free-standing structure until 2007. The main observation experience takes you to the LookOut level and the Glass Floor, a pane of reinforced glass you can stand on, looking straight down 342 metres to the ground, which is far more unnerving than it sounds. For an extra fare you can continue to the SkyPod, one of the highest observation decks in the world, for a wider view over Lake Ontario and, on clear days, the mist of Niagara in the distance.

Thrill-seekers can also do the EdgeWalk, a hands-free walk around the outside of the pod, tethered to an overhead rail, 356 metres up. For most visitors, though, the Glass Floor and a slow circuit of the windows at sunset is the experience, ideally finished with a meal in the revolving restaurant.

Da non perdere

  • The Glass Floor, standing on glass with a 342m drop beneath you
  • The SkyPod, one of the world's highest observation decks (extra fare)
  • The EdgeWalk, a tethered hands-free walk around the outside (seasonal, separate booking)
  • 360 Restaurant, which revolves for a slowly changing panorama
  • Sunset over Lake Ontario from the main LookOut level

Come arrivare

Da sapere prima di andare

  • Book online for a timed entry, it trims the queue at busy times.
  • The EdgeWalk is seasonal, weather-dependent, and books up; reserve ahead if it's your goal.
  • Dining at 360 Restaurant includes elevator access, which can be better value than a ticket plus a separate meal.
  • Clear days occasionally reveal the mist of Niagara Falls from the SkyPod, check visibility.

Un po' di storia

Completed in 1976 by Canadian National (the railway company, hence "CN"), the tower was built to solve serious communication-signal problems caused by Toronto's rising downtown towers. It doubled as a statement of engineering confidence and quickly became the city's symbol. It held the world-tallest-tower record for 32 years.

Domande frequenti

Is the SkyPod worth the extra fare?

It's significantly higher and less crowded, with a wider view. Worth it on a clear day; on a hazy one the main LookOut already delivers the key views.

What is the EdgeWalk?

A hands-free walk around the outside of the tower's main pod, 356m up, tethered to an overhead rail. It's seasonal, weather-dependent, and booked separately.

Can I just have dinner instead?

Yes, the revolving 360 Restaurant includes tower elevator access, which many find better value than a ticket plus a separate meal elsewhere.

How do I get there from downtown?

Walk from Union Station via the indoor SkyWalk, or it's a short walk down from the core. Parking downtown is expensive, transit is easier.
