Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is the primary gateway to Ladakh, located about 4 km from Leh town center. Situated at 3,256 meters (10,682 feet), it is one of the highest commercial airports in the world. The approach is breathtaking, with flights descending through a narrow valley flanked by stark, rugged mountains. The small terminal is functional and often busy with trekkers and pilgrims. Due to high altitude, flights operate only in clear weather, typically from early morning to midday.
Don't miss
- Experience a thrilling landing with views of the Indus River and barren mountains.
- Spot the distinctive white-and-red terminal building against the desert landscape.
- Enjoy clear morning light for photography of the surrounding peaks.
