The Palacio de Gobierno de Jalisco, the seat of the state government, is renowned for its striking murals by Mexican muralist José Clemente Orozco. Painted in the 1930s, the murals depict themes of Mexican history and social struggle, with the most famous being 'Hidalgo,' a dramatic portrayal of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla.
