Un peu d'histoire
The original pagoda was built in 975 AD by King Qian Chu of Wuyue for his concubine Consort Huang. During the Ming dynasty, Japanese pirates burned its wooden elements, leaving only the brick skeleton. A superstition that the bricks could repel illness led to widespread theft, and the pagoda collapsed on September 25, 1924. The new pagoda, designed by Tsinghua University architects, opened on October 25, 2002,. Its structure uses a steel frame with copper parts.
