Un peu d'histoire

Spadina Museum was originally the home of the Austin family, prominent Toronto businessmen. The house was built in 1866 and expanded in the 1910s. It was donated to the City of Toronto in 1982 and opened as a museum in 1984. The name 'Spadina' comes from the Indigenous word 'ishapadenah,' meaning 'hill' or 'rising ground.'
