Schreckhorn

The Schreckhorn, standing at 4,078 meters, is the highest summit located entirely within the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It is a iconic peak in the Bernese Alps, visible from Grindelwald and surrounding areas. For experienced climbers, the Schreckhorn offers a serious alpine challenge with technical routes, crevassed glaciers, and exposed rock faces. The ascent typically starts from the Schreckhorn Hut (2,520 m) and requires excellent fitness, glacier skills, and rope work. While not as crowded as the Eiger or Jungfrau, the Schreckhorn rewards climbers with solitude and breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, including the Finsteraarhorn and the Lauterbrunnen valley. For non-climbers, the mountain can be admired from viewpoints in Grindelwald or from the Jungfraujoch.
