Sherdar Madrasa, built in the 17th century, stands on Samarkand's Registan square. Its most distinctive feature is the mosaic above the entrance arch, depicting two lions with suns on their backs, a rare animal motif in Islamic architecture. The madrasa's facade is covered in vibrant blue tiles. Visitors can walk through the courtyard and see the former student cells, now housing souvenir shops.
