Tomboy is a former mining camp that flourished in the late 1800s, now a ghost town with remarkably intact structures including a boarding house, tram towers, and mill foundations. Perched at 11,500 feet on the slopes of Imogene Pass, it offers a tangible glimpse into the rugged lives of miners. Visitors can hike the 4-mile Tomboy Trail from Telluride, gaining 1,800 feet in elevation, or take a 4x4 road from the valley. The site is open year-round, but snow often blocks access until late spring.

Don't miss

  • Explore the preserved boarding house and imagine life in a remote mining camp.
  • See the remnants of the aerial tramway that carried ore down the mountain.
  • Enjoy panoramic views of the Telluride Valley and surrounding peaks.
