June 2024 Lovely, delicate African cuisine! Spices and stocks has been used in a clever way and the dishes visually were very appealing. I had never really tried a high-end African restaurant before so it was a very fun experience. The cocktails were also very unique and unusual, especially the spiced okra martini.
One of the beautiful and unique experiences is the Chishuru restaurant experience, owned by the creative chef Adejoké, who began her passion for cooking from a food cart during her university studies to a food truck in Southwest London. The restaurant has a set menu with a set of 3 flavorful delicious appetizers, main course and the unique dessert. Yes The restaurant is worth to try it again
This was a tasty experience that started with a warm welcome despite our slight tardiness. With our jackets swiftly put away, we were seen to our tables and handed the menu. Lunch menu at £45 per person came with two starters, one main, and a dessert. Both starters were amazing, one made of rice and the other made of beans. The savory West African flavors stood out in both, but were now further elevated with the toppings in one and the creamy base in the other. For the mains my wife and sister-in-law had the guinea fowl dish while I opted for the Asaro (sweet potato cream, yams and smoked eel). Both dishes were very good. We also had the side of jollof rice and plantain; the real authentic flavours abound. Mille-feuille was different in a good way; once again the flavors take centre stage. Cocktails were unique and worked well with the dishes.
The website makes quite a big deal of the lack of choice in their fixed menu, but that really isn’t an issue once you get there. We sat downstairs, which could have been gloomy at lunchtime, but thanks to pin sharp service and some nifty lighting felt atmospheric instead. The fixed price lunch is fabulously tasty, with amazing flavours in every dish. The drinks are equally exotic and (in another demonstration of great service) when one wine tasted a bit too exotic to be enjoyable, it was swapped for a glass of something more mainstream. Really high quality food showing off great skill in the kitchen, all for a very reasonable price considering it’s a Michelin starred restaurant in central London. I’m looking forward to a return visit.
