The Clava Cairns of Aviemore, also known as the Balnuaran of Clava, are a well-preserved group of Bronze Age burial monuments dating back around 4,000 years. The site features three circular cairns surrounded by standing stones, with a central chamber accessible via a passage. Unlike the more famous Clava Cairns near Inverness, this lesser-known set offers a quieter, more intimate experience. Visitors can walk among the stones, ponder their astronomical alignments, and enjoy views of the surrounding Cairngorm mountains. The site is open year-round and free to visit, with informative panels explaining its history.
Don't miss
- Explore the three passage graves, each with a central chamber and stone circle
- Notice the cup marks and carvings on some of the standing stones
- Enjoy panoramic views of the Cairngorms from this elevated site
