A bit of history

The building was constructed in 1892 as the headquarters of the Ottoman Bank, a key financial institution of the late Ottoman Empire. After the bank moved out, the building was restored and reopened in 2011 as SALT Galata, a non-profit cultural institution supported by the Garanti Bank. The restoration preserved many original features, including the bank vaults and marble counters.
