Visconti Castle (Castello Visconteo) is a medieval castle in the heart of Locarno, dating back to the 12th century. Originally built by the Visconti family, rulers of Milan, it later served as a residence and administrative center. Today, the castle houses the Museo Civico (Civic Museum), which displays archaeological finds from the region, including Roman artifacts and medieval sculptures. The castle's courtyard and halls are also used for concerts, exhibitions, and cultural events. Though only part of the original structure remains (the rest was demolished in the 19th century), the surviving tower and walls give a sense of its former strength. Visitors can explore the museum, climb the tower for views, and enjoy the peaceful inner courtyard.
