The Brissago Islands are a pair of small islands in Lake Maggiore, near Locarno, renowned for their botanical garden. The larger island, Isola Grande, hosts an extensive collection of exotic plants from around the world, including subtropical species that thrive in the mild lake climate. Visitors can stroll along winding paths through themed gardens, such as the Mediterranean terrace, the bamboo grove, and the cactus collection. The island also offers panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. A small café and a restaurant provide refreshments, and there are benches for quiet contemplation. The garden is a peaceful retreat, ideal for nature lovers and photographers. Access is by public boat from Locarno or Ascona, making it a popular day-trip destination.
