The church was founded in 1487 after a reported vision of the Virgin Mary. Visitors can reach it via a scenic funicular from Locarno's old town or by a steep walking path. The complex includes the main church, a cloister, and a small museum with religious art. Inside, the baroque interior features frescoes and a revered wooden crucifix.
