Wildkirchli is a fascinating cave complex located just a short walk from the Berggasthaus Äscher on the Ebenalp. The caves have been used by humans for thousands of years, with evidence of Neanderthal habitation dating back to the Paleolithic era. In the 17th century, a small chapel was built inside one of the caves, dedicated to Saint Michael. Today, visitors can explore the main cave chamber, which houses the chapel and an altar, as well as a small museum showcasing archaeological finds from the site. The atmosphere inside is cool and serene, with natural rock formations and a sense of ancient history. The caves are easily accessible via a well-maintained path from the cable car station, making them a popular stop for hikers. The combination of natural beauty, archaeological significance, and spiritual history makes Wildkirchli a unique destination.
