Puerta de Santiago is a monumental gate located at the western edge of Segovia's old town, near the Alcázar. It was one of the main entrances through the city walls, originally built to control access along the road from Zamora and León. The gate features a large semicircular arch flanked by two sturdy towers, giving it a fortress-like appearance. Today, it stands as a quiet landmark, often overlooked by tourists rushing to the Alcázar. Walking through the gate, you can still see the grooves where the portcullis once slid. The area around the gate offers lovely views of the Alcázar and the valley below. It's a peaceful spot to pause and imagine the comings and goings of medieval travelers.
