The Alcázar of Segovia rises dramatically on a rocky promontory where the Eresma and Clamores rivers meet. Its unique silhouette, resembling the bow of a ship, has inspired stories and legends, including claims that it was a model for Disney's Cinderella castle. Inside, visitors can explore lavishly decorated rooms such as the Throne Room with its ornate ceiling and the Hall of the Kings with a frieze of 52 monarchs. The castle also houses a museum of weapons and a military archive. Climbing the Tower of John II rewards with sweeping views of the city and surrounding plains. The Alcázar has served as a royal palace, a state prison, and a military academy. Its mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architecture reflects centuries of modifications. The exterior, with its pointed turrets and slate spires, is especially photogenic from the nearby mirador.
