The Kursaal Congress Centre and Auditorium is a striking modern building on the eastern edge of San Sebastián, where the Urumea River meets the sea. Designed by renowned architect Rafael Moneo and completed in 1999, it consists of two large translucent glass cubes that seem to float above the ground. The structure houses a main auditorium seating over 1,800 people, a smaller hall, and exhibition spaces. Its design was inspired by the natural rock formations along the coast, and the glass panels reflect the changing light of the sky and sea. Visitors can admire the building from the outside, walk around its base, or attend a concert, film festival screening, or conference. The building is adjacent to Zurriola Beach, a popular surf spot, and the surrounding promenade offers excellent views of the bay and the old town.
