Gyeonghuigung was originally built as a secondary palace for the king, serving as a retreat and auxiliary residence during the Joseon dynasty. Though much of it was destroyed during the Japanese colonial period, it has been carefully reconstructed, allowing visitors to appreciate its grand gates, ornate throne hall, and peaceful courtyards. The palace grounds also house the Seoul Museum of History, providing context on the city's evolution. Its location near Gwanghwamun makes it a tranquil escape from the bustling city.
Don't miss
- Sungjeongjeon Hall, the main throne hall with a double-roofed design
- The Seoul Museum of History, located within the palace complex
- The picturesque stone wall path along the palace's western edge
